A narrow, elongated depression, groove, notch, or slit; especially a narrow opening for receiving or admitting something, such as a coin or a letter. Also used for a position in a schedule or sequence, as in We have two slots open tomorrow for an interview.
The slot in which a component or device fits, as in The screwdriver fit the screws in their proper slots. The space into which something can be fitted, as in He slotted the new filter into the machine.
In computer science, a portion of memory that is allocated to hold data. The amount of available memory is limited by the total number of slots, and it is usually reported in KB or MB.
In airport coordination, a period of time reserved for a specific aircraft at a busy airport, to avoid repeating delays caused by too many flights trying to take off or land at the same time. Also called a clearance.
In the context of a dialog, a value in an entity definition that can be substituted by an alternate name (called a synonym). You can add as many synonyms as you like for a slot, so that when your bot encounters that slot type, it knows to interpret the alternative names. To add a synonym, hover over the slot type in the Entity Definitions pane and click the plus sign (+). Then enter your desired synonym in the field that appears. You can also enter multiple synonyms for a single slot type by pressing and holding the Ctrl key as you make each selection.
