In a video game, a space on the screen reserved for a character, object, or event. A slot is usually surrounded by other elements to distinguish it from the surrounding area. The term may also refer to a specific type of expansion slot, such as an ISA or PCI slot on a motherboard.

In casinos, a machine that accepts cash or paper tickets with barcodes as a form of payment. A slot is activated by pressing a lever or button (either physical or on a touchscreen) and spins reels to arrange symbols according to the paytable. A player wins credits based on the combinations of symbols and other bonus features, which vary by game. Most slots have a theme and align the symbols with that theme.
